Driver’s Diary: WHAT KEEPS DRIVERS ROLLING?

September 13, 2022

Celebrate Truck Driver Appreciation Week with tales from these important professionals!

It is time to celebrate National Truck Driver Appreciation Week from September 11-17, 2022. While we celebrate our drivers all year round, this week is a great way to show extra appreciation to drivers. They not only deliver our goods safely, securely, and on time, but also keep our highways safe. We asked some of our drivers for insight into their journeys on the road.

ADVICE TO MY YOUNGER SELF

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give yourself as a new driver?

“I wish I had worked with brokers who valued me as much as I valued them. I try to work with brokers who care about their carriers as much as they care about their customers. Find the right broker and make sure they value your time and efforts and pay a fair share.”

ENJOYING THE SCENERY

What is your favorite place to drive through and why?

“I love to drive on 101 while going to Los Angeles from Northern California because the drive is very scenic, and it never gets old.”

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

What is your favorite part about being a driver? What made you start?

“I just love to drive so why not do it and get paid for it? I started because it is good money.”

“It’s very scenic and I like to see new things on the road. I became a driver because my father was a driver – and a very good one.”

“It allows me to work set hours that I feel comfortable working. And I can travel the entire country and get paid. I became a driver because I always wanted to be a business owner; and trucking just fell in my lap since a couple of my close friends were drivers. They recommended me to the trucking company I work for now.”

HOME BASE ROUTINE

What is the first thing you do when you get back from a drive?

“I spend time with my kids!”

“Shower, prep food, enjoy some TV, submit paperwork, and plan the next trip in advance.”

TRADING PLACES

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, who would it be and why?

“A college kid, because they don’t have any responsibilities!”

According to the American Trucking Association, “Driver Appreciation Week was created to celebrate and recognize the important contributions made by the men and women of the trucking industry and is an important time for America to pay respect and thank all the professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in undertaking one of our economy’s most demanding and important jobs.
